It’s fitting that Band of Opals’ first online class would be about the voice of God. There wouldn’t have been a single post if it wasn’t for God speaking so clearly and so gently to me 5 years ago. “You should be writing.”
It came quietly and sounded like a thought in my own mind but I was positive that it hadn’t come from me. I don’t know how the Holy Spirit does that! Sometimes I can just tell right away that it is Him and I should pay attention.
I wrote so much as a child and writing certainly comes naturally to me but I hadn’t even considered it was something God would ask me to do. I wrote a couple articles and sent them to a few people. Some where supportive and encouraging, some where not so my fragile ego forgot set writing aside.
About a year and a half later I was laying in bed and thinking about Nehemiah. All of a sudden God spoke again. It was like a giant concept map in my brain of how beautiful Nehemiah’s testimony was and how it showed a beautiful blueprint of rebuilding not just the walls of Jerusalem but of the things in our lives. I wrote it all out over a couple weeks and had to share, and that’s how Band of Opals was born! Through the voice of God.
He speaks quietly, loudly, faintly, clearly. He speaks through nature and science, passion and emotion. He is always speaking through scripture, through dreams, songs and poetry. He speaks through loved ones and enemies, successes and failures.
He speaks about His love for us and the plans He has. He shows us where to go and what to do next. Guides our steps when He hear Him and when we miss what He is showing us.
He speaks out loud, as a thought, through visions, and through absolutely any means possible. He is our shepherd who guides us and is so near. He created us to be in relationship with Him, and as Christians we are always learning to recognize Him more and more.
I have been wanting to do classes since I started Band of Opals almost 3 years ago. It’s time, and there is no subject I like to teach on more! I have taught this subject more than once in my own living room and I’m thrilled to teach it now online!
Maybe you have learned to recognize God’s voice already. Maybe you feel like you have never heard it. Either way this class is for you. He is speaking to you, and to all of His people. We will help to identify His voice in your life and we will grow in hearing for ourselves and each other. This is stewarding our relationship with God, and it is so much fun!
He wants to talk to you. You are His child.
