The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
Lamentations 3:22-24 ESV
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”
Happy New Year! Isn’t there just something about a new year? Sure, I will write the date wrong for the next two months, but there’s this feeling of newness. We’ve never lived in 2024 AD and I sit here wondering what it will be like. What will be different and what will be the same?
The one thing I know that will be the same is that God will show me mercy this year. His mercy will be new and available every morning, every afternoon, and every evening but there’s something about the morning and the new year that stands out as the beginning of possibilities.
Maybe this year God will heal “that thing.” Maybe this is the year that God restores “that relationship.” Could this be the year that God frees me from “that addiction?” What about changing finances, finding jobs, and new purpose? Could He change how you hear from Him, pour out His love in a new way, pull you out of loneliness, and set you in a community full of love and support?
His mercy and His grace are non-stop! There’s no end to the list of possibilities and plans that God has for us, and they are all good. He’s thinking about us right now!
How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.
Psalm 139:17-18 NLT
They cannot be numbered!
I can’t even count them;
they outnumber the grains of sand!
And when I wake up,
you are still with me!
So, bring every request before your Father. Every request for you and the ones you love. Ask Him for the things you don’t even think are possible because He does that too, I’ve seen it. Ask for forgiveness if you need it and ask for blessings because that’s what He wants to give you. Ask for salvation for those around you and ask God to reach into the darkest places in 2024, because His mercies are new every minute, morning, week, month, year, decade, century, and millennium for all of eternity.
