The Precious Blood

I was meditating on the cross today during worship, thinking about how Jesus suffered and died for you and me. With my eyes closed I tried to picture the cross, the scene, the suffering, and just thanked Jesus for His perfect sacrifice. As I meditated something new stood out to me.

I saw His precious blood pour out and it blew my mind that the Great I Am’s actual blood flowed onto the ground. The ground He created. The ground that He formed Adam from. His perfect blood ran down His body when He was crowned with thorns, beaten, carried His cross, and then was nailed to it. I am grateful for it and I am blown away by just how crazy it is that something so precious soaked into the floor, the dusty road, and the ground beneath the cross.

We sing the word precious and hear it in scripture but what does it mean? I looked it up and it means that it is of great value and high price, highly esteemed or cherished, and excessively refined. Honored. Precious.

What a gift, what a shocking way to save us! God became flesh and suffered, loved, laughed, ate, slept, drank, walked, dreamed, mourned, and rejoiced with us. He never blew it, not even once. He never sinned against a single person or against God. He healed everyone who was brought to Him, raised the dead, cast out every unclean spirit. All the while this precious blood coursed through His veins until He chose to pour it out for us.

So today I mourn that blood that was spilled, and I celebrate it.

I thank you Jesus for your precious blood! Your blood is perfect and highly esteemed! I cherish it because it is so excessively refined and has paid the highest price. There is nothing that it cannot redeem and restore. Nothing could ever possibly take its place and it is the only thing that can wash away my sins and redeem a fallen world. Well done, perfect Savior! Well done, Your precious blood!
